COPS have launched an urgent warning after saying that only 5 per cent of drivers know what a common street sign means.
Humberside Police said a shocking number of motorists have claimed to be unaware of the rule after being caught driving down an access-only road despite a clear road sign.
Officers were taking action in Preston, an East Riding village six miles from Hull.
It came after residents had complained to cops about people using vehicles on the road, reports Hull Live.

However, on Tuesday police ran into many drivers using the road and claiming ignorance in order to get away with it.

It said: "Attended at Middle Lane Preston today to enforce that access-only route.
"Between 5 & 6 pm nearly 100 cars were stopped and only five had right of access.
"Horrified at the number of drivers who claimed not to know what a red circle with a car and bike inside meant!"
