PETER Andre is facing a backlash from nursery employees furious at comments he made about new government plans in his New column this week.

The 44-year-old singer quoted a survey which claimed that one in five nurseries in England "don't plan to offer the government's proposed 30 free hours of childcare each week."

He added: "I absolutely do not agree with this! What about the thousands of parents out there who need and depend on it?

"If the government is offering it, every nursery should honour it."

However, his comments were slammed by those working in childcare who believe they need more funding to meet the pledge.

One fan wrote: "Please look into the facts to find out why nurseries & childminders are struggling with 30hrs funding."

Another added: "Did you do any research before writing your comments about the 30 hours nursery places??"

A third follower tweeted: "oh you've angered so many people with your views and comments on the 30 hours 'free' funding in child care .."

Peter is the father of four young children - two with ex-wife Katie Price and two with his second wife Emily.

Emily - who he married back in 2015 - juggles motherhood with her work as a Junior Doctor.

The Government has pledged to offer three and four-year-olds in England 30 hours of free care a week.

Under the current system, all three and four-year-olds in England, as well as disadvantaged two-year-olds, are eligible for 15 free hours of childcare a week.

This is set to be doubled to 30 hours nationwide later this year.

But campaigners and experts have warned nurseries and other childcare providers need more funding to meet the pledge.
