ONE person has been hospitalised after a massive multi-vehicle crash involving at least 10 cars on a busy motorway.

Dramatic footage of the smash has emerged after one car crashed into another, causing a pile-up in Antrim.

The collision happened on the northbound lane of the motorway on the outer overtaking lane close to the Mallusk junction on Tuesday afternoon.

Motorists faced long tailbacks after the crash caused one lane of the motorway to be closed off entirely.

Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes as emergency services attended the scene of the collision.

Dash-cam footage shows one car crashing into another and shaking as another car hits it from behind.

At least 10 cars were involved in the pileup, with those at the back appearing to have suffered the most damage.

The delays led to changes in Translink's bus service from Belfast city centre to Belfast International Airport, with passengers unable to be dropped off at Templepatrick until the return journey.

The scene was cleared and the lane fully re-opened shortly after 6:30pm.

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service said: "Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken by ambulance to Antrim Area Hospital."
