ITV has dropped the first look pictures for their new crime drama starring Peaky Blinders and Gentleman Jack star Sophie Rundle.

The actress has revealed that her character is ‘relentless and reckless' but also ‘determined and dogeared’ while tackling issues during her journey.

ITV’s new mystery drama follows young pregnant police officer PC Joanna Marshall, played by Sophie, in the middle of a crisis after a deadly flood hits her small Yorkshire town.

Things go from bad to worse when an investigation threatening to expose the townspeople's secrets is opened.

The captivating newly released snaps see Sophie looking similar to her Happy Valley character Kirsten McAskill as PC Joanna Marshall with a baby bump.

While filming for the ITV series, Sophie spoke about the images, stating: “These images perfectly set the significant tone for After the Flood.

“I know viewers will be both gripped and moved by the story we are telling. A story brought to life by the brilliantly talented team I am surrounded by, both on and off-screen.”

During ITV’s Q&A for After the Flood, the actress spoke about her character Jo and described what is to be expected from her on a show.

Sophie explained: “She's relentless, and I think she has this kind of fixation on this case.

“Maybe it's an element of kind of trauma, though, with everything that she went through. I think it's exacerbated by this forthcoming end of her pregnancy.

“She is reckless in that moment and naive.”

She added: ‘She's just determined and dogeared. And that can work very well for her, and that can also trip her up.”

The series also stars Sophie’s real-life partner, Matt Stokoe, known for Jamestown, as her on-screen husband, Pat.

Speaking about working with her husband on set Sophie said: “We weren't sure about doing it together because there's an inevitable interest in and we're quite private in that sense.

“But we really like working together, and it definitely makes it easier if it's someone that is your partner or even just someone you've worked with before, rather than turning up on sentencing, ‘hi, nice to meet you, I'm your wife.”

The official synopsis for the series reads: "When an unidentified man is found dead in a lift in an underground car park, police assume he became trapped as the waters rose.

"As the investigation unfolds, PC Joanna Marshall (played by Rundle) becomes obsessed with discovering what happened to him. How did he get in the lift, and why does no one know who he is?

"The mystery in After the Flood unfolds across the series while we also see the real impact of climate change on the lives of residents in this small town. The floods threaten to expose secrets, and fortunes and reputations are at stake.

"But how far will people go to protect themselves?"

The Bay star Jonas Armstrong will also be starring in the series as the seemingly heroic local man Lee alongside The Crown star Nicholas Gleaves, Bridgerton's Lorraine Ashbourne, Belgravia's Philip Glenister, and Ridley star Jacqueline Boatswain.
